On joy

Published by Guardian under My Thoughts

Go to the most beautiful natural place you know.  It needs to contain plants and animals.  You will need to concentrate, so sit or stand or walk, whatever helps you to concentrate.  You will also need to be able to empty your mind, so if you find this hard to do while walking, stop.

Choices

Published by Guardian under My Thoughts

One of my favourite philosophers, Soren Kierkegaard, wrote about choice.  He said that most people live their lives like drunken peasants on a cart, letting the horse wander where it will.  They make no real choices in their lives.  For Kierkegaard, the process of becoming a realised, authentic self is the act of choosing to base one’s life on one principle, and then letting other choices follow on from that.  He wrote about “stages on life’s way”, and gave different examples of what one could base one’s life on.

The Death Lodge

Published by Guardian under Other thoughts

A couple of days ago Moongazy lent me a copy of a handbook called The Wilderness Quest; For Vision and Self-healing by Dr Stephen Foster and Meredith Little. It’s an extraordinary little book, quite different from any “self help” or “spiritual” books I’ve flicked through before. It takes the reader, in very concrete and specific steps, through the preparation for a Vision Quest. None of the usual vagueness that one finds in most spiritual advice.

How do you know when you can see?

Published by Guardian under My Thoughts

This question was asked of me yesterday by Dayve.

I said I would consider it. I think the first answer that comes to mind is: you know you can see when you remember yesterday, and you realise that things looked different then. Or: when you find yourself comparing your accounts of the world to those of other people around you, and you can tell that you’re talking about different things. Continue Reading »

Tiers of illusion

Published by Guardian under My Thoughts

I am really proud of yesterday’s entry, it expressed how I feel well. It reaffirmed the fact that I literally do see a different reality, and that’s what I wanted to do. But I would like to flesh out some of the details. Continue Reading »

Reflections on the Matrix

Published by Guardian under My Thoughts

I watched the Matrix yesterday. It’s an extraordinary film. Virtually every scene is perfect. Choreography, lighting, costume, sets, effects, tints, dialogue…it’s all exceptional. Films 2 and 3 are good, but they are nothing to the first masterpiece. It’s hard for me to watch it, for two main reasons: Continue Reading »

An interesting read

Published by Guardian under Other thoughts

I haven’t read everything on this website, but I can generally endorse http://www.futurescenarios.org/ It’s rare for me to endorse anything, let alone an entire website.

If you don’t have time to digest the whole site, this page would, I think, give you a good feel for what the site is about.
